Pastoral Vacancy at First Baptist Church Chapel Hill, North Carolina


The First Baptist Church of Chapel Hill, NC, located at 106 North Roberson Street in Chapel Hill, is seeking a full-time pastor with the following educational experiences, pastoral experiences, and leadership skills and qualifications:

Education and Experiences:
  • Masters of Divinity from an Accredited Seminary or Bible College
  • A minimum of  3 years of successful experience as a pastor
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of Baptist polity and governance
  • Licensed and ordained in the Missionary Baptist Church
  • Strong biblical/theological knowledge in preaching, teaching, and exhorting God’s Word through Bible-based sermons, Bible Study, and ongoing Christian Educational experiences for members
  • Understanding and use of technology (proficient in the use of computer literacy skills, knowledge and use of biblical and religious software) as a biblical and church management tool and resource
Leadership Qualities and Skills:
  • Strong administrative and managerial skills to work with and facilitate the leadership and spiritual growth of church leaders and staff
  • Communication skills that can generate positive and motivating interactions between and among individuals of all age groups of cultural and ethnic backgrounds
  • Leadership skills that are transformational in nature (i.e., visionary, democratic, equipping and empowering of the church membership)
  • Ability to counsel and relate well with church members
  • Willingness to actively affiliate with local ministerial alliances, New Hope Missionary Baptist Association, General Baptist State Convention of North Carolina, and National Baptist Associations/Conventions
  • Willingness to visit and pray with members who are sick and shut-in,  hospitalized, in crisis, and  in need of counseling and spiritual support 
  • Some knowledge of and experience with technology and electronic biblical resources
  • Ability to interact with community, surrounding communities, organizations, universities, and other groups
